Most advice about "AI visibility" is abstract — optimize your content, be helpful, add structured data. Useful, but it doesn't tell you what's actually happening when someone searches for you, by name.
So here's a real example, from a real technical proof-run of our monitoring pipeline (not a customer report — internal testing, disclosed as such). We ran three buyer-intent searches for a South African legal-tech business: a generic "best AI legal research tool" query, a category query, and — the one that mattered — the business's own brand name plus "reviews."
What actually came back
Zero of three searches surfaced the business by name. The category searches were dominated by much larger, established legal-research platforms — expected, those are bigger products with more history. But the third search — the business's own brand name — returned an unrelated, much larger competitor with a similar-sounding name instead of the business at all.
That's not a ranking problem you fix with more content. That's a name-collision problem: anyone searching for the brand directly gets routed to someone else's product before they ever see the real one.
Why this is worth checking for your own business
- Search your own brand name, not just your category. A lot of businesses only check "best X in my city" and never check whether their own name search actually surfaces them.
- Watch for collisions with bigger, similar-sounding names — a more established competitor can quietly absorb searches meant for you, and you'd never know without actually running the check.
- Fix what's real, not what's generic. The same run also found the business's core product page had lost its <h1> tag — the strongest on-page signal search and AI engines use. That's a five-minute fix with a real, evidenced reason behind it.
This is exactly the kind of finding that only shows up when you actually run the search and read what comes back — not when you guess.
Automating this instead of doing it by hand.
CAI Systems maps what a South African business actually does, automates the repeatable parts, and runs an AI agent on its own WhatsApp number. If something here is work you keep redoing, have us test your response time first — it costs nothing.
